10 Jul Dark Horse
Most of us have played the role of a dark horse at some point. I love this phrase and believe in the power of being a dark horse with all my heart. However, I’ve never liked the term underdog. Dark horse VS. underdog? What’s the difference? The difference is so profound that I never want you to forget it.
An underdog comes from the position of disadvantage. And although they might find success, they are still the underdog because of some disadvantages. On the other hand, a dark horse wins from a place where their strengths are unknown by the mainstream. A dark horse always had the strength and courage to win, but the people on the outside didn’t know it. In all likelihood, they knew they could win, but the public opinion didn’t.
Lesson: Never let someone tell you you’re an underdog. You might be a dark horse, but you’re never the underdog. Mindset matters a lot. All you need is the chance for YOUR strengths to shine.
Rob Galloway, who played at Wofford, beat the #1 player in the world today at Wimbledon. He might have been a dark horse, but he was never the underdog. Those of us in his corner, who know him well, always knew this day would come.
The same is true of the many special needs people in my life. I believe in their strengths too. Believing in people is personal to me. Try it at every chance you get. You might be amazed at how much fun life can be.
