Sports Done Right

As fans we love just about everything about sports. Excitement, team loyalty, tradition, competition, sense of belonging and entertainment are reasons we are so attached to sports. In 2023, nearly 160 million people watched live sports at least once a month in the U.S. This is an enormously high percentage of our population, so there’s no doubt that sports has an impact on us and our communities.

These high numbers cause us to pause and consider what are the best things about sports when sports are done right? In Chapter 18 of Hard Comes First, I write about the importance of continuing to comeback. In most cases, a struggle is the beginning on something good. This is why I wrote Hard Comes First. I’ve seen it so many times with players on my team and in my own life that I wanted everyone to understand that every time we face a struggle, there’s the possibility that it just might be the beginning of something good. Hard Comes First is available on Amazon. Order a copy for yourself or someone you care about today because we need these reminders.

Last week one of our team captains feel to the ground with a hurt ankle. Instead of running over to make it better, I watched and waited for the response. What do we do when we fall? We get up, but the struggle can be the beginning of something good. When sports are done right, getting up after falling, sportsmanship, effort, and learning are what we love about sports. Champions understand that every hard thing is an opportunity for growth. Champions are growth minded. This is what we love about sports.

Let’s seek opportunities to believe!

Respectfully,

Rod
