20 Dec Family
One of the things that former college tennis players miss most after college is the closeness of a good team. Teams like ours, as well as many organizations, often talk about creating a family atmosphere. It is important to remember that family means different things to each of us because our experiences with family are vastly different. When it comes to family, truth be told, most of us have some good and some parts that we’d rather not talk about too much.
However, we can all create a family outside of family and make it the way we want by loving people well. In a country where the Surgeon General recently declared that half of our people are lonely, let’s commit to reaching out, bringing each other in, and demonstrating that we care. Simple gestures of kindness can create a family that isn’t always related.
You don’t need a ball and a court to coach because you can always form a team. And you don’t need blood-related people to form a family because you can always love people and bring them in. Christmas can be the perfect time to love boldly and often.
Merry Christmas,
Rod
