03 May LEARN SERVE LOVE AND COMPETE. YOU ARE A KING
I despise losing. My 25th year of college coaching did not go as planned because we lost more than expected. Winning on the scoreboard is marked as the primary goal of college sports, but there can be a contrarian understanding of results. Sometimes, the lessons we learn from loss are more valuable than short-term wins. However, since we play to win, do not automatically assume the lessons are worth it without diving in deep to do the work to get better. We need to understand the non-negotiables of turning losses into wins.
- Do not make excuses.
- Take an honest inventory of your culture and be willing to make uncomfortable changes.
- Develop the skill of loving people well during the storm.
- Know who you are, so you do not worry about your purpose when it is questioned.
You will have losing days, but losses don’t have to be forever. Use these times to make yourself stronger. For you, it might be something other than a tennis match, such as current relationships, health concerns, or financial worries.
You can bet that undesirable events will happen, but that does not mean you are losing. The opportunity to respond in a way that reflects the best of you is available and waiting if you are willing to seek it.
Remember, you were born to be a king. LEARN, SERVE, LOVE, AND COMPETE.
